Gender Equality Statistics: Indonesia's Gender Gap Index Compared to Other Countries

In the Global Gender Gap Report 2022 published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), it took the world around 132 years to achieve gender equality throughout the world.

According to the WEF, until 2022 the gap in conditions between men and women will still be wide. To measure this, the WEF compiled a gender gap index in world countries from various related indicators. WEF then implemented a scoring system on a scale of 0-1. A score of '0' is interpreted as a condition where the rights of men and women are very unequal, and a score of '1' is considered a condition with perfect equality. In other words, the higher a country's score, the more equal the position between genders in that country is from various aspects.

Based on this method, looking at the overall gender gap score (“Global Gender Gap Index”) according to the 2022 Global Gender Gap Report, Indonesia received a score of 0.697, placing it in 92nd place (up from 101st in the previous year) of the 146 countries surveyed. WEF. This ranking places Indonesia in 7th position out of 11 ASEAN countries, and in 12th position out of 19 G20 countries. In general, Indonesia's position is still better than several developed countries in the world, including Japan, China and South Korea.
