Research data from the Center for Political Studies (Puskapol) FISIP University of Indonesia revealed that the gap in the number of women and men in the structure of election organizing bodies is still unequal. Women's representation in election organizing bodies reached a relatively high proportion in the 2007-2012 election period, where 3 out of 7 of the Indonesian General Election Committee (KPU) commissioners and 3 out of 5 of the General Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) commissioners for the 2008-2012 period were women. However, since then, women's involvement in election organizing bodies has continued to decline.

In the 2012-2017 period, in the KPU, of the 7 commissioners, there was only 1 woman. Meanwhile in Bawaslu, out of 5 commissioners, there is also only 1 woman. In the following period (2017-2022) the number of women in the highest leadership of the election organizing body did not increase, leaving only one commissioner in both the KPU and Bawaslu.
